Ensuring that you have the best keywords built into the content of your blog/website is extremely important for positioning at the top of the SERP (search engine results page). Don’t just concentrate on keywords though there are many other bits that you need to be doing to rank well. You need to understand that there is actually another keyword related section that search engines will look out for before reporting any results for a certain search term. You need to realise that search engines tend to use a lot more then just the simple search term when showing the results. Search engines such as Google have a record of words and phrases that are systematically related to other search terms. Search engines will also have a log of every word on your page. Google would initially find all the web pages from their database that match the search phrase. It then compares the word usage in their system for the keyword/phrase related pages. If websites are equal on all these variables, it is the website that has done this best that will rank higher. There are many other variables but I hope this explains why web pages with lower page rank can beat the higher page rank when it comes to SERP.

Google have a tool that you can use for free if you search lab.google.com/sets you should find it pretty easily. You can use this tool to see what words Are related to the search terms. To use this tool simply enter your keyword along with 1 or 2 other words that relate to your original one. The words that are in the list that was generated you can use to fill your content.

When you are writing the content for your site make you use synonyms and semantically related phrases to increase the domination of your keyword. During a time period search engines will learn that your website contains many related keywords and it will then consider you as an authority site.
